Technical Co-Founder for Startups
Looking for a technical co-founder for your startup? A founding-level engineer and ex-CTO who can own architecture, build the MVP, and set up the first engineering team. Remote.
If you’re a non-technical founder looking for a technical co-founder for your startup, you probably need three things at once: someone who can build the first version, make the architecture calls that won’t haunt you at scale, and eventually hire and lead the engineers who take it further. I’m Kuldeep Pisda — a former startup CTO and founding engineer in Bengaluru who has done exactly that.
What a founding technical partner does
- Builds the MVP for real — not a throwaway prototype, but a first version with a schema and architecture you can grow on. I’ve taken products from zero to production and from internal tool to whitelabel SaaS.
- Owns the hard early calls — build vs. buy, monolith vs. services (usually monolith, early), which corners are safe to cut and which will cost you later.
- Sets up the foundation — auth, payments, CI/CD, and the review culture that lets the next hires move fast without breaking things. I’ve done founding-SRE work and taken a startup through SOC 2.
- Hires and leads the first engineers — writing the specs, running the interviews, and setting the delivery cadence for a small team.
An honest note on “co-founder”
A true co-founder relationship is about fit and commitment — that’s a real conversation, not a checkbox. What I can offer immediately is founding-level technical leadership on a fractional or consulting basis, enough to get you building and de-risked, and we can talk about a deeper arrangement if it’s the right match. I’d rather be straight with you than sell you a title.
Experience you’d be leaning on
6+ years across Django, PostgreSQL, and increasingly AI systems; a platform scaled past 30,000 users on a lean budget; products rebuilt and re-platformed without big-bang rewrites; and time as a startup CTO. The case studies show the decisions and the trade-offs.
FAQ
Do you take equity instead of cash? That’s a fit-and-commitment conversation. I most often start as a fractional technical partner; equity depends on the stage and the match.
Can you build the MVP yourself? Yes — I can be hands-on-keyboard for the first version and bring in help as scope grows.
What stage should we be at? Anywhere from idea-with-validation to a shipped-but-shaky MVP that needs a technical owner. Very early is fine.
Will you help us hire? Yes — defining roles, interviewing, and setting up how the team ships are part of the job.
Fractional CTO instead? If you want ongoing leadership without the co-founder question, see fractional CTO for startups.
