Technical Co-Founder for Startups

Looking for a technical co-founder for your startup? A founding-level engineer and ex-CTO who can own architecture, build the MVP, and set up the first engineering team. Remote.

If you’re a non-technical founder looking for a technical co-founder for your startup, you probably need three things at once: someone who can build the first version, make the architecture calls that won’t haunt you at scale, and eventually hire and lead the engineers who take it further. I’m Kuldeep Pisda โ€” a former startup CTO and founding engineer in Bengaluru who has done exactly that.

What a founding technical partner does

An honest note on “co-founder”

A true co-founder relationship is about fit and commitment โ€” that’s a real conversation, not a checkbox. What I can offer immediately is founding-level technical leadership on a fractional or consulting basis, enough to get you building and de-risked, and we can talk about a deeper arrangement if it’s the right match. I’d rather be straight with you than sell you a title.

Experience you’d be leaning on

I’ve done the 0โ†’1 arc this role actually demands. I took a learning platform from its first Directus MVP โ€” shipped in weeks, designed from day one to be outgrown โ€” to a full Django platform serving 30,000+ users, owning the product decisions end to end: payments that evolved from a single gateway to recurring eNACH mandates, an in-house video pipeline with GPU transcoding, and the infrastructure underneath it all. Today one backend serves ~20 web apps and native Android behind a single login, and the Happy Thoughts case study walks through each decision in the order it was made. Add 6+ years across Django, PostgreSQL, and AI systems โ€” and time as a startup CTO โ€” and that’s what you’d be leaning on.

FAQ

Do you take equity instead of cash? That’s a fit-and-commitment conversation. I most often start as a fractional technical partner; equity depends on the stage and the match.

What does it cost? As a fractional technical partner I work at $6,000/month โ€” a weekly 60-minute leadership call, ownership of architecture decisions, hiring input, and a monthly written state-of-engineering report. Most engagements start with a $4,000 audit of what’s already built, credited toward the retainer if we start within 60 days. Prices are in USD plus GST where applicable, and you’ll have the cost in writing before we start.

Can you build the MVP yourself? Yes โ€” I can be hands-on-keyboard for the first version and bring in help as scope grows.

What stage should we be at? Anywhere from idea-with-validation to a shipped-but-shaky MVP that needs a technical owner. Very early is fine.

Will you help us hire? Yes โ€” defining roles, interviewing, and setting up how the team ships are part of the job.

Fractional CTO instead? If you want ongoing leadership without the co-founder question, see fractional CTO for startups.
